Sensorial Conference and Interactive Exhibition by Ricardo Ramos
Polaris Parfums Expo
Quality Hotel Globe, Stockholm 30/11/24
Much of the magic from the Al-Andalus has survived to our days thanks to its architecture, cultural syncretism, archaeology and gastronomy, as well because of the large number of botanical species spread across almost the entire Iberian Peninsula brought from the Middle East in the Middle Ages, making it the unique heir of an intangible cultural heritage of an olfactory legacy that is intended to be highlighted in this conference, where also other substances of animal origin will be mentioned, relevant substances which were used in the same way as those of botanical origin for the development of perfumes, initially used as medicines, which later evolved to a luxurious level.
The development of this conference will be done in a sensorial way, giving to the public the opportunity to smell the substances while talking about each one of them, also tasting some of the creations from the Al-Andalus collection by Ricardo Ramos to identify the raw materials in them. The sense of smell is the sense that immediately takes us back to memories and emotions, which, although quite abstract, confronts us with feelings or situations thanks to our memory records as intimate as any other sense.
It is for this reason that Ricardo Ramos is interested in the search for the representation of olfactory portraits from people, places and even events through smell. His inspirations revolve around history and sociology, as a permanent questioning of where we come from and where we are going as individuals and as a society, giving visibility to his concerns related to general culture and popular culture, through telling stories with olfactory discourses.
The raw materials featured during the conference will be exhibited during the fair accompanied with illustrations made by Spanish artist Maria del Carmen Heredia
